TESTIMONIALS
Well, the advantages that I felt Warsash offered are given below:
1. Proximity to London - It is just about over an hours journey from London Heathrow.
2. The climate in Southampton is the best that you can get of all the other places in UK.
3. The Maritime and Coast Guard Agency (MCA) is based in Southampton and right in the heart of the city close to where
Indian students reside.
4. The general rumour is that the pass rate for MCA oral examinations is the highest in Southampton and that is why I had
chosen Southampton.
5. The part-time job opportunity is very good and I recovered almost 75% of my total tuition fees + living expenses by working
part-time.
6. There is a big Indian community staying in the city centre, where most of the Indian students tend to take up accommodation.
Hence, you never feel that you are out of place. You may even be lucky to hook up some Indian girl.
7. You can really enjoy the night life in the city as the rented accommodation are just
walking distance, 15 minutes approx. from the city centre.
8. The tuition fees of Warsash was cheaper than the other colleges by a few hundred pounds when I was doing my Mates ticket.
9. Since, Southampton is the hub of shipping activities in UK, there are a lot of ship manning agents over there. One of my
friends even managed to switch over to Red Funnel ferries as he got a permanent job with them.
10. Southampton Solent University (which owns Warsash Maritime Academy) offers courses in Shipping Management and Port
Operations to seafarers. Hence, you have another option if you are looking to do some shore based courses to move ashore.
11. Since part-time job opportunities are so good, lot of seafarers bring their wives along and they end up saving money more
than what they are spending. If a persons wife is working full time i.e. 40 hrs / week (which she is entitled to as she is on a
dependant visa), she can easily earn over a 1000 pounds every month whereas your living expenses will not be more than 500
pounds / month even on a lavish living.

I do not have much information about the other colleges and hence cannot compare them. Since, I had a fair idea about
Warsash Maritime Southampton, hence, I have elicited in detail about the same.

Hi
I just read through the feed back given about Warsash Maritime Academy by my Class mate Nikhil Khot. I just wanted to put it in
a nut shell saying that One man's food is another Man's POISON. Everyone is grown up enough to do what he feels is right!!! I
did my Mates & also Masters from Warsash Maritime Academy and never had a bad experience at all, in fact we had students
running over from Fleetwood during my stay there as they had gotten beaten up outside bars in Fleetwood. The rest is upto the
individual going there. Like Nikhil also said, if you cant take a slight bit of disparity between the English and yourself when your
there, then JOIN LBS MUMBAI instead...why U.K..
Best of Luck.

Hi All,
I'm Renjith Pillai, Chief Officer working for Fleet Management Ltd. I did my Mates from Warsash Maritime Academy. I was there
for Sept 2000 batch and there were plenty Indians. I'd discontinued studies after a term and joined back in Apr 2002 and
completed the Mate's. I found the college to be quite cool. The location of the college and the city also are quite nice. I will be
going to Warsash for Master's orals as well.

Hi
This is S Anand, working as Chief Officer with Anglo Eastern. I did my Mates course
from Warsash in 2002, September batch and enjoyed every bit of my stay in
Southampton. The college is also good with high academic standards and I plan to
return for my masters to Southampton. I would not hesitate to recommend this college to other students and this is not
influenced by the fact that kunal is a very good friend
of mine.
Cheers.

Your website www.springdaleindia.com has made life easy for mariners who wish to get their COC's from UK. I was wasting time
and money to get information before I came across your website. Thanks for all the information that you have provided.

The advantage of doing your Engineering of the Watch (Class IV) of doing at Warsash is that you can complete all of your
workshop, written and orals in 4 months and come back to India if you clear your exams in the first try. Unlike other colleges,
you do not have to go there twice for finishing your studies. The workshop facilities are also very good.

Hi, this is Nikhil here. I am working as a Chief Mate on
DP ships, (earlier with KC Maritime) and did my Mates
few years back. My experience was good and in fact I
luck had something else in store for me. Since, I have
watched Warsash and Southampton very closely, I
would like to elaborate on some of the points:

The college is situated about 15 kms from the City
Centre and it is more of a suburb, as you can not have
such a big chunk of land in the heart of the city. Does'nt
make sense. Almost all the Indian students stay right in
the city and there is a free bus vice from city to Warsash
college, 3 times a day from Monday to Friday. So,
transportation is not a problem even though you can be
staying in the city.
It is difficult to compare the lecturers of one college with
another as there is no grading system for the teachers.
Since, the size is kept small in Warsash, hence it is
easier to interact with the teachers and ask questions. In
IIM Ahmedabad, there is said to be one teacher for
every 3 student on an average so as to have good
student tutor interaction.

Racism - that dreaded word. Well, we all do realise that
except in our own country, we will always be treated as
second grade citizens irrespective of where we may
migrate to i.e. UK, Canada, USA, Australia and New
Zealand. Still, Indians are leaving their own country to
migrate to USA, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand,
etc. We are going there BY CHOICE and not BY
CHANCE.
