Course Name: Diploma in Nautical Science / 2nd Mates Foreign Going Programme

Eligibility: You should have completed atleast 36 months of sea service (12 months being in the past 10 years) and atleast
12 months on commercial trading vessels of 500 GRT or more. Atleast 6 months must have been served as understudy of
the officer in charge of a navigational watch on trading ships of 500 GRT ore more and must be correctly documented.
Training Record Book is not required if following this path to 2nd Mate certification.

Living Expenses: NZ $ 10,000 for 1 year

Accommodation: We will give you telephone numbers of landlords prior to your departure to NZ. Food and accommodation
expenses / month on a conservative estimate will be about 25,000 - 30,000 Rs/-.

Admission Procedure: Please send the following documents (notarised copies) to us by post / email at the earliest:

  • NZ Maritime School application form correctly filled out.
  • Passport 1st & last page copies
  • CDC all pages (except for blank pages) copies
  • Educational qualification certificates (class X, XII, diploma, etc.) copies
  • Bridge watchkeeping certificate (for atleast 6 months) copies

Afer we have received your documents, the following procedures will be undertaken:

  • Your application form and documents will be sent to NZ Maritime School (Manukau Institute of Technology). If the
    college accepts your application, you can expect the conditional admission letter in about 3 weeks time.
  • After receiving your admission letter, we will now assist you with applying for an eligibility from Maritime New Zealand.
    The eligibility process will take about 30 days time. It is strongly advised that every student should apply for his
    eligibility before joining the college. The student will need to pay the eligibility fees to Maritime New Zealand and all
    documents being sent has to be attested by a notarised public.
  • After receiving your eligibility from Maritime New Zealand, you will now have to remit the total tuition fee to New Zealand
    Maritime School (Manukau Institute of Technology) for which the college will give you a receipt.
  • Now, you will apply for a student visa. We will assist you with this process. The visa processing time is approximately 4
    weeks. You will need to show about 10,000 NZ$ for the visa apart from the tuition fee paid in full to the college. There
    is no IELTS English Test requirement for the New Zealand visa as per the present existing rules.

Eligibility application to Maritime NZ: The following documents need to be sent to Maritime NZ to apply for an eligibility.
Certified copies of the documents only will be accepted:

  • The SEAFARER LICENSING Application Form (15088) – remember to sign in both boxes on page 3 (we will email this
    form to you)
  • 4 passport size colour photos (30.5mm x 40.5mm)
  • DD of NZ$ 728.84 in the name of "MARITIME NEW ZEALAND". If you face any difficulty in making this Demand Draft,
    please contact Mr. Pradeep Tambe from Cox & Kings, Mumbai at 09819058853 who will help you out.
  • The “Fit and Proper Person” form including the “Consent to Disclosure” (we will email this form to you).
  • Passport 1st and last page notarised copies
  • CDC all pages (except for blank pages) certified copies
  • Character certificate from the employer (certified true copy) - this information is usually contained in the discharge
    certificate issued from the ship
  • Bridge Watch keeping certificate for minimum 6 months (certified true copy)
  • Proof of sea service and any supporting documents (masters testimonials / company letters)
  • Seafarers medical certificate (ILO 147) and colour blindness test. You may contact Dr. Ranbir Singh in Mumbai,
    Telephone number: 022 66318446 ; 09821026616. Alternatively, you may contact any DG Shipping approved doctor
    for the same. Please also attach the colour blindness test certificate.
  • A letter from the candidates local police station stating that they have no record of his having any criminal or traffic
    offenses against him. This is normally obtained from their area police station and the fee is INR 150 (I think)

Flight ticketing:

The one way flight fare is in the range of 35,000 - 45,000 Rs/-
The return fare i.e. to & fro is in the range of 60,000 - 70,000 Rs/-
Some of the airlines that will fly you to Auckland in New Zealand are Thai Airways, Qantas Airways, Singapore Airlines,
Malaysian Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Emirates.
